** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Scugog, located in southern Ontario near Port Perry, is a relatively shallow lake that warms and cools more quickly than deeper lakes in the province. Its water temperature changes markedly through the seasons. In winter, the lake usually freezes over, with surface temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). During spring, melting snow and inflowing rivers gradually raise the temperature to 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). By midsummer, the shallow nature of the lake allows it to reach comfortably warm temperatures of 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), depending on air conditions and sunshine. In autumn, the water cools again to about 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) as nights grow longer and colder air returns.
Swimming in Lake Scugog is possible and officially allowed, especially during the warmest months from late June through early September. The water’s moderate depth makes it suitable for wading and family swimming, though swimmers should be cautious in areas where aquatic vegetation is dense or water clarity is reduced. The main swimming spots, such as Port Perry Waterfront Park, offer easy access and maintained beach areas. Outside the summer season, the lake becomes too cold for safe swimming, but it remains a popular place for boating, fishing, and enjoying the scenic southern Ontario landscape.
