*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sturgeon Lake, located in the Kawartha Lakes region of southern Ontario, is a large freshwater lake that forms part of the Trent–Severn Waterway. The lake’s moderate depth and sheltered bays contribute to noticeable seasonal changes in water temperature. During winter, the lake typically freezes, with surface temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). In spring, the melting ice and inflowing rivers keep the water cool, averaging around 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). By midsummer, especially in July and August, surface temperatures reach 20–25 °C (68–77 °F), while deeper parts of the lake remain cooler. In autumn, as air temperatures fall, the lake gradually cools again to around 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) before ice begins to form in late fall.
Swimming in Sturgeon Lake is very popular during the summer months, when the water becomes pleasantly warm and calm. Public beaches, cottage areas, and small parks around Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon offer easy access for swimming and recreation. The clear, clean water and sandy or gravelly bottoms provide comfortable conditions for swimmers of all ages. The best time for swimming is from late June through early September. Outside of this period, the water is too cold for comfortable bathing, though the lake continues to attract visitors for boating and fishing.
