** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Albufeira da Barragem do Castelo de Bode, in Santarém District, experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. Typical winter values lie around 8–13 °C (46–55 °F), spring warming to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), summer commonly reaching 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) in shallower bays and sheltered areas, and autumn cooling to about 15–21 °C (59–70 °F). Temperatures can differ locally with depth, exposure and inflows: shallow coves warm more quickly in summer, while deeper or wind-exposed parts remain cooler. Short-term fluctuations follow air temperature, rainfall and river discharge, so conditions at a given spot may vary from the seasonal averages.
Swimming is generally possible at Castelo de Bode and the reservoir is used for bathing and a range of water sports, but it is regulated for safety and water-management reasons. Authorities and landowners may prohibit access near the dam, hydroelectric intakes or boat channels; designated beaches or recreation areas are the usual places for safe bathing. There are often no lifeguards outside supervised zones and water quality can change with algal growth or runoff, so swimmers should heed local signage and guidance. The summer temperature range makes swimming comfortable for most people, while colder months increase the risk of cold-water shock and shorter immersion times.
