*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Soldier’s Leap is a dramatic spot on the River Garry near Killiecrankie in Perthshire, where the river flows through a narrow gorge surrounded by woodland. The water here is fed by upland streams, keeping it cool throughout the year. In winter, the river typically measures around 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), while in spring it slowly rises to about 7–9 °C (45–48 °F). During summer, the surface temperature can reach 13–15 °C (55–59 °F) in calmer stretches, though shaded areas beneath the gorge walls remain much colder. By autumn, it cools again toward 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), maintaining the crisp, refreshing quality characteristic of Highland rivers.
Swimming in the River Garry at Soldier’s Leap is not generally recommended because of the fast currents, steep banks, and submerged rocks in the gorge. However, some experienced wild swimmers and kayakers use safer stretches upstream or downstream during the summer months when water levels are lower. Wetsuits are advisable, as the water remains cold even in warm weather. The area is popular for walking and photography, with trails through the Killiecrankie Pass offering views of the gorge and its historical battlefield. Nearby attractions include Blair Castle, the Falls of Bruar, and the forests of the Cairngorms National Park.
