*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Plodda Falls, located near Tomich in the Scottish Highlands, is one of the region’s most impressive waterfalls, dropping over 40 metres into a shaded forest gorge. The water feeding the falls comes from upland streams that remain cold throughout the year, influenced by high rainfall and the surrounding woodland canopy. In winter, the water temperature typically stays between 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), while in spring it rises only slightly to around 7–8 °C (45–46 °F). During summer, even on warm days, the stream and plunge pool rarely exceed 12–14 °C (54–57 °F). By autumn, the temperature cools again to near 8–10 °C (46–50 °F), creating consistently fresh and brisk conditions typical of Highland waterfalls.
Swimming at Plodda Falls is not officially encouraged, as the plunge pool below the falls can be deep, cold, and unpredictable, with slippery rocks and strong undercurrents after rain. However, some experienced wild swimmers occasionally take short dips in calmer stretches downstream during the summer months. The surrounding forest, part of the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, offers scenic walking trails with views of ancient pinewoods, rivers, and smaller cascades. Nearby attractions include Glen Affric itself, Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin, and the picturesque village of Tomich, all ideal for nature lovers and hikers.
