*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cambus o' May is a well-known beauty spot on the River Dee in Royal Deeside, most famous for its elegant suspension bridge. Swimming here is popular and generally permitted under Scotland's access rights, specifically near a gently shelving section of river beach. However, the river's temperature is a significant factor. As a water body flowing from the Cairngorms National Park, it remains cold throughout the year, with winter temperatures dipping to around 4∘C (39∘F).
During the height of summer, the surface water can warm up, sometimes reaching between 16∘C and 20∘C (61∘F and 68∘F) during heatwaves. Despite this occasional warmth, cold water shock remains a danger, and swimmers are advised to enter slowly. The river’s flow and depth can also change rapidly after rain. Besides the bathing area, the location is a gateway to the Cambus o' May forest walks, and is close to other attractions like the historic Burn o' Vat geological feature and the village of Ballater, known for its royal connections.
