Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dog Falls, located on the River Affric within the stunning Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, is a picturesque spot featuring rapids, waterfalls, and deep, still pools. Wild swimming is legally permissible under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, but it is highly discouraged directly at the falls and surrounding rapids due to the powerful currents and inherent danger of a waterfall environment. Some deep pools upstream, like those near Coire Loch, may be used for experienced wild swimmers who enter slowly and are fully prepared for the cold.
The water here is sourced from the surrounding mountains and therefore remains extremely cold throughout the year. Due to the river's constant movement and the falls' depth, the water doesn't warm significantly, with temperatures typically ranging from about 3∘C (37∘F) in winter to a summer peak rarely exceeding 15∘C (59∘F). Visitors to Dog Falls can enjoy several established woodland walks to viewpoints overlooking the gorge, and the reserve itself is famous for its extensive remnants of the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest and the beauty of Loch Affric.
