*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Perth, often called the “Gateway to the Highlands,” sits on the banks of the River Tay, Scotland’s longest and one of its most dynamic rivers. The Tay near Perth is wide and fast-flowing, carrying cool, clean water from the surrounding hills. Because of the northern climate and mountain-fed sources, the river remains relatively cold throughout the year. In winter, temperatures average around 3–5°C (37–41°F), rising slowly in spring to about 8–10°C (46–50°F). During the summer months, July and August bring the warmest conditions, when the Tay can reach 14–16°C (57–61°F) in calm, shallow areas. By early autumn, it cools again to roughly 10–12°C (50–54°F), retaining a brisk, refreshing quality even during mild weather.
Swimming in the River Tay at Perth is possible but best suited to experienced wild swimmers who are familiar with cold-water conditions. The current can be strong, and the water remains cool even in summer, so proper preparation and safety awareness are essential. Many people instead enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, or riverside walks that take in the scenic views of the Tay and its bridges. Beyond the river, Perth offers access to the nearby Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park, Scone Palace, and the rolling landscapes that mark the edge of the Scottish Highlands.
