Location & Local Information
The Kyiv Reservoir, often called the Kyiv Sea, is a large artificial lake on the Dnieper River, located just north of Kyiv. Because of its size and relatively shallow depth along the shores, the water here warms up fairly quickly in summer. During the warmest months, surface temperatures typically range between 21 and 25°C, with some shallow bays reaching up to 26–27°C. The wide open water and gentle slopes along the banks make many areas suitable for swimming, although the conditions can vary depending on the wind and weather.
The reservoir’s calm stretches are popular for recreation, especially near small beaches and coves where the current is weak. However, open sections can experience waves and cooler patches caused by wind mixing the water. Despite that, the Kyiv Reservoir remains one of the most accessible and scenic places near the capital for summer swimming, boating, and relaxing by the water. The combination of open horizons, pine forests along the shore, and pleasantly warm water creates a true “sea-like” feeling.
