Valjevo, located in western Serbia, lies on the banks of the Kolubara River, which flows through the city before joining the Sava. The river’s temperature follows the pattern of the continental climate typical of the region. During winter, the water is very cold, usually between 1–4 °C (34–39 °F), and can partially freeze in shallow areas. In spring, temperatures gradually rise to around 10–14 °C (50–57 °F). During the summer months, especially in July and August, the Kolubara River warms to 20–24 °C (68–75 °F), while shallow sections may briefly exceed 25 °C (77 °F). By October, the water cools again below 15 °C (59 °F) as autumn sets in.
Swimming in the Kolubara River around Valjevo is allowed and traditionally popular during the warm season.
