Location & Local Information
The city of Zvornik is situated on the banks of the Drina River in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and much of the river’s course here forms the large, artificial Zvornik Lake. The Drina is known for its distinctive green color and relatively cold temperatures, as it originates from the deep canyons of the Tara and Piva rivers. Water temperatures exhibit a narrow seasonal range: in winter, the water is very cold, usually between 8∘C and 10∘C. Even in the summer, the temperature rarely exceeds 18∘C to 20∘C at its warmest point in August, making swimming a very refreshing, though often cool, experience.
Swimming is generally allowed in the Drina River and Zvornik Lake and is a popular activity during the summer months. Local beaches and recreational spots are established along the lake's shores, particularly as part of the “Zvornik Summer” events.
