*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Porvoo, located in the Uusimaa region of southern Finland, is built along the Porvoonjoki River, which flows through the historic old town before reaching the sea. The river’s shallow nature and slow flow mean that its water temperature changes noticeably with the seasons. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface water is typically around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). During early summer, the river warms to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest month, temperatures usually reach 18–22 °C (64–72 °F). In calm, sunny periods, the water can temporarily exceed 23 °C (73 °F). By late September, temperatures drop below 10 °C (50 °F), and the river cools rapidly before winter ice forms in November.
Swimming in the Porvoonjoki River is allowed but generally limited to designated areas due to varying currents and water depth. The water quality is usually suitable for bathing, especially near recreational spots away from the estuary. Locals often swim during the warm summer months, when conditions are safe and pleasant. Spring and autumn waters remain cold, making swimming less common, but midsummer offers comfortable temperatures and scenic surroundings, ideal for enjoying Porvoo’s blend of nature and historic charm.
