*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Kymijoki River flows through the city of Kouvola in the Kymenlaakso region and is a major recreational waterbody. Swimming is generally allowed in accessible sections of the river, especially at designated public beaches, due to the Finnish Everyman’s Rights. Swimmers are advised to be cautious of the river’s currents, especially near power stations and rapids, but calmer areas are frequently used for bathing. Local authorities monitor the water quality, which is typically good, ensuring a safe experience during the warm season.
As a large river in Southern Finland, the Kymijoki’s water temperature fluctuates seasonally. During the winter, from approximately December to April, the river is either ice-covered or maintains a frigid temperature between 0∘C and 4∘C. The best period for comfortable swimming is during the peak summer months. In July and early August, the surface water in the slower sections generally warms up to a pleasant range of 18∘C to 22∘C, sometimes reaching higher. Outside of this warm window, the water is cool, mainly suitable for a quick, refreshing dip or for dedicated cold-water swimming.
