** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Vantaa, located in the Uusimaa region of southern Finland, is known for its many small lakes and the Vantaanjoki River, which flows through the city toward the Gulf of Finland. The area’s inland waters follow typical Finnish seasonal temperature patterns. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature in lakes and rivers is about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). As early summer progresses, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest month, water temperatures in Vantaa’s lakes and slow-flowing river sections usually reach 18–22 °C (64–72 °F). In shallow, sheltered areas, temperatures can briefly exceed 23 °C (73 °F). By late September, the water cools below 10 °C (50 °F), and freezing typically begins in November.

Swimming in Vantaa’s inland waters is allowed and quite popular during the summer. The city maintains several public beaches, such as Kuusijärvi and Vetokannas, where the water is regularly monitored for quality and safety. The lakes’ clean and calm waters make them ideal for swimming, while areas along the Vantaanjoki River are used for recreation but less for bathing. During midsummer, pleasant temperatures and well-kept facilities provide excellent conditions for swimming, while spring and autumn waters remain too cold for most swimmers.
