*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Plovdiv is situated in a warm-continental part of Bulgaria where small reservoirs, quarry lakes and river backwaters near the city experience clear seasonal shifts in water temperature. In spring surface temperatures typically rise from about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) as the weather warms. In summer, calmer, shallower lakes frequently reach comfortable swimming conditions around 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), and in some shallow or sheltered spots the water can get a bit warmer. Autumn cooling brings surface temperatures down to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), while in winter many local lakes hover near freezing, commonly 0–5 °C (32–41 °F), with ice possible on smaller bodies.
Swimming near Plovdiv is often possible in the warm months, but whether it is allowed depends on the specific site and local regulations. Some recreational lakes and officially managed areas permit swimming and provide safety features, whereas many reservoirs, irrigation ponds and informal quarry lakes are restricted due to water quality concerns, the absence of lifeguards, submerged hazards and their role in water supply. Visitors should follow posted signs and local guidance: legally permitted bathing areas are recommended for safety, while entering restricted waters remains illegal or unsafe regardless of temperature.
