** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stara Zagora (Стара Загора) lies in central Bulgaria on a continental plain fed by rivers and several reservoirs rather than the sea. The main river in the area is the Tundzha, supplemented by local streams and reservoirs such as Ovcharitsa and nearby Koprinka, which tend to warm more than flowing water. Seasonal surface temperatures for reservoirs in the region typically run from about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in winter, rise to roughly 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) through spring, and reach their warmest in summer around 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), with occasional heat‑wave peaks near 28 °C (82 °F). Rivers like the Tundzha are generally a few degrees cooler in summer, commonly 16–22 °C (61–72 °F). In autumn temperatures fall back toward 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) before winter freezing in colder years.
Swimming is possible in the Stara Zagora area, especially in summer when reservoir temperatures are most comfortable, but opportunities are mixed and often informal. Some reservoir beaches and municipal sites are used for bathing, yet official restrictions may apply because of water‑quality variations, agricultural runoff, submerged hazards, steep banks or boat traffic, and the frequent absence of lifeguards. For safety and health it is advisable to follow local signage and any municipal monitoring reports before swimming, and to choose designated or well‑used spots during the warmest months.
