*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Troyan, a town in the northern foothills of Bulgaria’s Balkan Mountains, is served by nearby reservoirs and mountain lakes that offer fresh water and scenic spots. Water temperatures around Troyan vary strongly with the seasons: in late spring and early summer (May–June) surface temperatures typically range from about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), while peak summer (July–August) often brings 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) on warm days. In autumn the water cools to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F), and through winter it can fall near freezing, commonly around 0–5 °C (32–41 °F) in unfrozen stretches. Small, shallow bays warm faster than deep parts of reservoirs, so local readings can differ by several degrees.
Swimming is possible and commonly undertaken in summer when temperatures are pleasant, but it is not uniformly regulated or supervised. Many shorelines allow recreational bathing, yet there are areas where swimming is discouraged or prohibited because of boat traffic, underwater currents near dam structures, water-management operations, or variable water quality. There are few formal lifeguarded beaches, so visitors should heed posted signs, avoid restricted zones, and take usual safety precautions—entering slowly to check temperature, swimming with a companion, and avoiding risky spots near inflows or steep drop-offs.
