*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Blagoevgrad (Bulgarian: Благоевград) lies in southwestern Bulgaria near the foothills of Rila and Pirin, and local lakes and reservoirs tend to reflect the continental–mountain climate. Typical water temperatures in these still waters vary widely by season: in spring (March–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 6–16 °C (43–61 °F) as snowmelt and cool runoff dominate; by early summer they rise toward 18–22 °C (64–72 °F); peak summer (July–August) can see the warmest readings around 22–26 °C (72–79 °F) at shallow, sun‑exposed spots; autumn brings a decline to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F); and in winter many lakes approach freezing, often 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice cover possible at higher elevations or on smaller bodies of water.
Swimming is possible in the Blagoevgrad area mainly during the warm summer months when surface temperatures are most comfortable, but whether swimming is allowed depends on the specific lake or reservoir and local rules. Some reservoirs are used for drinking water or hydroelectric purposes and swimming is prohibited for safety and water‑quality reasons, while informal bathing may occur at accessible shorelines. Visitors should follow posted signage, be aware that lifeguards are generally absent, and consider water clarity, currents, and sudden depth changes before entering.
