** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Struma (Струма) River in Bulgaria exhibits notable seasonal variation in water temperature that depends on altitude and local conditions. In winter the river is cold, often between about 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in lowland sections and closer to freezing in mountain streams. Spring brings warming and variability, typically around 6–15 °C (43–59 °F) as snowmelt and rains influence flow and temperature. In summer the lower, slower reaches can become pleasantly warm, commonly 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) and sometimes a few degrees higher in shallow side channels, while upland stretches remain cooler. Autumn sees gradual cooling, with temperatures usually falling back to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) depending on recent weather.
Swimming in the Struma is possible in many stretches, particularly in calm lowland pools and gently flowing sections during the warm months, but it is not universally recommended everywhere. Local restrictions may apply near dams, irrigation works and bridges, and water quality can decline after heavy rains or near urban effluents. Strong currents, variable depth, underwater obstacles and cold conditions outside summer are the main safety concerns, so swimmers should choose well-known, supervised spots, heed signage, and consider seasonal temperature effects on comfort and hypothermia risk.
