Water Temperature Trends
Blekinge, a province located in the southeastern part of Sweden, has a relatively mild coastal climate due to its proximity to the Baltic Sea. During the winter months, the sea temperature around Blekinge remains cool, ranging from 3°C to 5°C (37°F to 41°F). This chilly water temperature makes swimming uncomfortable, but the coastal landscapes still attract visitors who enjoy winter activities like hiking and sightseeing.
As spring approaches, from April to May, the water temperature gradually increases. By late April, the Baltic Sea waters around Blekinge begin to warm to around 6°C to 8°C (43°F to 46°F), and by May, they rise to approximately 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F). While still too cold for some people to swim, the weather during this period is pleasant enough for outdoor activities and enjoying the coastal beauty.
During the summer months, from June to August, the sea temperature reaches its warmest. In July, the water temperature averages around 17°C to 19°C (63°F to 66°F), providing a more comfortable environment for those who wish to swim. August sees the highest sea temperatures, with the water averaging around 19°C to 20°C (66°F to 68°F), making it the best time of the year for beachgoers. However, the water remains somewhat cooler compared to other southern parts of Europe, so visitors accustomed to warmer seas may find it refreshing yet brisk. As autumn approaches in September, the water begins to cool again, returning to temperatures around 14°C to 16°C (57°F to 61°F).
