Location & Local Information
The Yatran River in central Ukraine is a relatively small and calm waterway, flowing through rural landscapes and fields. Its water temperature follows a typical seasonal rhythm: in spring it is usually still quite cool, rarely exceeding 12–15°C, while in summer it can warm up to 20–24°C in shallow areas. During the hottest weeks of July and August, some sections of the river may feel even warmer, especially where the current is slow.
Swimming in the Yatran is possible, though it is mostly popular among locals in villages and small towns along the river. The riverbanks are often grassy or sandy, making it convenient for entering the water, but in some places the bottom may be muddy. Because the river is not large, its depth can vary a lot depending on rainfall, so safe swimming is best in the wider stretches where the flow is gentler.
