*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Río Urumea flows from the Basque hinterland to the Bay of Biscay at Donostia-San Sebastián and exhibits temperatures typical of a small Atlantic river. Seasonal water temperatures generally range from about 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in winter, 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in spring, 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) in summer, and 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in autumn. These values vary with rainfall, river discharge and tidal influence near the estuary, so local conditions can change quickly; shallow, sun-exposed pools warm more than deeper, shaded stretches.
Swimming in the Río Urumea is possible in principle but is not widespread, especially through the urban core of San Sebastián. Municipal authorities do not typically promote bathing in the central channel because of variable water quality after rains, fluctuating currents, and the absence of lifeguarded facilities; for safety and hygiene many people prefer the nearby monitored sea beaches. Upstream and in calmer rural reaches, informal swimming and wild bathing occur when conditions are favourable, but it is advisable to check recent water-quality reports and local regulations before entering the river.
