The Urola River (Spanish: Río Urola) runs through the Basque Country under an Atlantic-influenced climate, which keeps its water relatively cool year-round. Seasonal temperatures typically range from about 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) in winter, 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) in spring, 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) in summer during the warmest shallow stretches, and 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) in autumn. Because the river is fed by upland tributaries and frequent rainfall, even summer highs commonly remain lower than nearby coastal sea temperatures, and sudden drops can occur after rain or during windy conditions.
Swimming in the Urola is possible in calmer pools and wider reaches, and locals sometimes bathe in suitable spots during warm weather, but formal, lifeguarded bathing areas are limited.
