Location & Local Information
Fastiv lies on the banks of the Unava River, a small tributary of the Irpin that winds through the southern part of Kyiv Oblast. In the area near the city, the river is calm and rather shallow, which allows the water to warm up quickly as summer begins. By mid-June, the water temperature usually reaches 22–24°C, and in July it can rise to 25°C or slightly higher during heat waves. The riverbed is mostly sandy and muddy, and in some spots the current is so weak that the water almost stands still, creating natural bathing areas.
Locals often swim in the quieter stretches of the Unava near Fastiv or relax by the ponds formed along the river. These places are especially pleasant on warm days, surrounded by green trees and meadows. While there are no large, organized beaches, residents enjoy simple swimming and fishing in natural conditions, where the clear, sun-warmed water offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat.
