The rivers around Belitsa (Белица) in southwestern Bulgaria are largely mountain-fed, which strongly influences their thermal profile. Seasonal water temperatures tend to be low: in winter the water commonly sits around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and is often near freezing in shallow sections. During spring and early summer, snowmelt keeps temperatures between roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F).
