** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The river known in Bulgarian as Места (Mesta or Nestos downstream) flows from the Rila and Pirin mountains toward Greece, and its water temperature varies with elevation and season. In winter the river is cold, typically around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in many stretches; spring temperatures rise to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt feeds the channel. By early and high summer slower, lowland reaches can warm to about 12–20 °C (54–68 °F), and on particularly warm, shallow sections temperatures may reach 18–24 °C (64–75 °F). In autumn the water generally cools again to roughly 6–16 °C (43–61 °F) as air temperatures fall and flows increase.
Swimming is possible in parts of the Mesta during the warmer months, especially in calm, lowland pools where temperatures are comfortable; however, it is not universally allowed or advisable. Fast currents, sudden depth changes and cold pockets fed by underground springs or upstream snowmelt present hazards, and some sections are subject to local restrictions for water supply, conservation or safety reasons. Visitors should choose established bathing spots, heed local signage and lifeguards where present, and avoid entering the river after heavy rain or in high-flow conditions despite nominally warmer summer temperatures.
