** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Õhne (Latvian: Omuļupe) is a modest lowland river whose water temperature varies strongly with the seasons because of its shallow, slow-moving character and the Baltic climate. In winter the river is often at or just below freezing, typically around 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) and may form ice. Spring thaw and cold runoff keep temperatures low, roughly 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) through April and May. By summer, shallow stretches warm noticeably and typical daytime values are often in the 16–22 °C range (61–72 °F), with isolated warm spells pushing surface temperatures toward 24–25 °C (75–77 °F) in hot summers. Autumn sees a steady decline to about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) before ice formation resumes.

Swimming in the Õhne/Omuļupe is possible in summer when temperatures are most comfortable, and there are no general nationwide prohibitions on river swimming in Latvia, but local restrictions, signage or private properties can apply. Water quality and underwater hazards (mud, vegetation, variable depth and current) are variable along the course, so whether swimming is advisable depends on local monitoring and common-sense safety: choose monitored or well-known spots, avoid swimming after heavy rains that can worsen quality, and be cautious in colder seasons because low water temperatures increase the risk of cold shock and hypothermia.
