** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Abuls River in Latvia is a modest, often shaded watercourse whose temperature varies strongly with the seasons and with local depth and flow. After ice melt in spring, typical water temperatures range from about 1 to 8 °C (34 to 46 °F), rising through late spring and early summer. In the warmest months, water in slower, sunlit stretches commonly reaches roughly 14 to 20 °C (57 to 68 °F), while faster or deeper sections stay cooler. By autumn the river cools again to approximately 5 to 12 °C (41 to 54 °F), and in winter the surface is at or close to freezing, often 0 to 1 °C (32 to 34 °F) where ice remains. Local variations are common; shaded runs and fast-flowing channels are noticeably colder than open, shallow pools.
Swimming in the Abuls is generally possible during the warmer months because there is no universal prohibition on entering natural rivers in Latvia, but suitability depends on spot-specific factors. Calm, shallow bends that warm in summer are the most comfortable for bathing, whereas stronger currents, sudden depth changes and submerged obstacles create hazards. Water quality can fluctuate after heavy rain or agricultural runoff, so local guidance and common-sense precautions are recommended. In winter the river is usually unsuitable for casual bathing except for organised ice-swimming with proper safety measures.
