** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Võhandu River (Võhandu jõgi) in southeastern Estonia shows clear seasonal variation in water temperature typical of northern temperate rivers. After ice breakup in spring the surface temperature is often about 2–10 °C (36–50 °F). By early summer temperatures commonly rise into the mid-teens, and in July–August surface readings frequently reach roughly 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) in sheltered bends and slow stretches. In autumn the river cools to around 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures fall. In winter the channel is often ice-covered and the water beneath the ice hovers close to freezing, about 0–1 °C (32–34 °F).
Swimming in the Võhandu is generally allowed because it is a public natural watercourse, and many people swim or wade in calm, accessible spots during warm months. Suitability depends on local conditions: shallow, slow-flowing sections and areas with gentle banks are more comfortable, while colder temperatures outside summer, submerged obstacles, variable currents and limited lifeguard provision can make some places unsafe. Water quality is usually good but can vary locally, so checking on-site signs, recent local advisories and exercising standard open-water safety precautions is advisable before entering the river.
