** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Emajõgi in southern Estonia is a slow, meandering river that connects Lake Võrtsjärv and Lake Peipus and runs through Tartu. Water temperatures vary seasonally: in winter the river is typically close to freezing, about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F); in spring it usually warms from roughly 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as snowmelt and runoff decline; in summer typical values are in the range of 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), with shallow or sheltered spots sometimes reaching around 24 °C (75 °F) in heat waves; and in autumn temperatures generally fall to about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). Local conditions, weather patterns and depth all affect these numbers, so there is variation from spot to spot and year to year.
Swimming in the Emajõgi is generally allowed because the river is public water, and many people swim in suitable locations during the warmer months. Authorities and local communities monitor bathing spots in summer, but not all stretches are appropriate for swimming: currents, variable depths, submerged obstacles, boat traffic and episodic water-quality issues after heavy rains can make some areas unsafe. Ice swimming is practiced in designated places in winter when ice and conditions are safe, but regular open-water swimming in cold seasons is not advised for safety and health reasons.
