** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Ahja River (Ahja jõgi) is a small, fast-flowing river in southeastern Estonia whose water temperature reflects the cool temperate climate. After ice break in spring the river commonly ranges from about 1–8 °C (34–46 °F) as snowmelt and cool runoff dominate. In summer, water warms but usually stays relatively cool for swimming, typically between roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F), with shallow sunlit pools occasionally reaching around 22 °C (72 °F) on warm spells. Autumn sees a steady cooling to about 6–10 °C (43–50 °F) as air temperatures drop, and in winter the river often approaches freezing conditions near 0 °C (32 °F) with ice cover forming in many stretches.
Swimming in the Ahja River is possible in recreational sections and informal local spots but is not universally supervised; permission depends on land ownership and any protected-area rules along certain reaches. Because flows can be swift, temperatures cold even in summer, and underwater obstacles common, swimmers should choose sheltered or designated areas, check local water quality and access rules, and avoid ice swimming without proper experience and safety. In short, swimming is allowed in many places for experienced and cautious visitors, but conditions and regulations vary by season and location.
