** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Odeleite River (Ribeira de Odeleite) in the Faro District is influenced by its reservoir and the Mediterranean climate of the eastern Algarve, so water temperatures vary seasonally and with depth. In winter the surface temperature commonly falls to about 10–14 °C (50–57 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise to roughly 13–18 °C (55–64 °F). Summer surface temperatures can reach around 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) in shallower, sun-exposed areas, with cooler pockets near deeper or shaded banks. Autumn typically brings a slow cooling, with temperatures often between 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). These are approximate ranges; local weather, river flow, reservoir management, and shade from vegetation or steep banks produce significant day-to-day variation.
Swimming in the Odeleite is practised locally, particularly in warmer months, but it is not uniformly supervised or regulated along the whole river and reservoir. Some access points and beaches around the dam and reservoir are used for bathing, yet others are restricted by private land, steep drop-offs, submerged hazards or signage advising against entry. Water quality and currents can change after rain or reservoir releases, and there are typically no lifeguards, so swimming is allowed in practice in many spots but requires caution, local awareness and attention to posted restrictions for safety reasons.
