** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Odelouca River (Ribeira de Odelouca), in the Faro District of southern Portugal, typically shows moderate seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter months temperatures commonly fall to about 10–14 °C (50–57 °F), spring brings warming to roughly 14–18 °C (57–64 °F), summer surface readings often reach about 19–24 °C (66–75 °F), and autumn cools back to around 15–19 °C (59–66 °F). Local conditions such as recent rainfall, shading by vegetation, depth of pools and proximity to the upstream reservoir affect instantaneous readings, so temperatures at specific bathing spots may differ from these general ranges.
Swimming opportunities exist in natural stretches and calm pools of the river where access is safe and land is public, and many people bathe there in warm months because temperatures can be pleasant for short swims. However, swimming is generally restricted or discouraged in and around the Odelouca reservoir area due to water-supply protection and safety rules; private property, strong currents after storms, slippery banks and variable depth also limit safe swimming in places. Visitors should check local signage and respect conservation and potable-water protections before entering the water.
