*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The stream known locally as Ribeira de Bensafrim runs through the Faro District in the Algarve and shows noticeable seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the water commonly sits around 10–14 °C (50–57 °F), influenced by cooler air and higher flows. Spring typically warms to roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) as flows reduce and sun exposure increases. In the warmest months of summer, sheltered and shallow sections can reach 18–26 °C (64–79 °F), though deeper or shaded pools remain several degrees cooler. Autumn temperatures usually fall back to about 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) as rains return and incoming water cools the channel. Local conditions such as recent rainfall, upstream releases, shading, and depth can shift these values by a few degrees.
Swimming in the Ribeira de Bensafrim is possible in many stretches, particularly in summer when temperatures are most comfortable, but it is not uniformly regulated as a formal bathing area. Access may be informal and safety varies: currents, submerged hazards, poor visibility after rain, and occasional water quality issues mean swimmers should take caution. Some spots are used by locals for recreation when conditions are calm and water quality is acceptable, but checking local signage, ownership of riverbanks, and recent conditions is advisable before entering the water.
