** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Rio Sado, a river running through Setúbal District in Portugal, shows seasonal surface temperature variations driven by Atlantic influence and freshwater inflow. In winter surface waters typically range around 12–15 °C (54–59 °F). Spring sees a gradual rise to roughly 14–19 °C (57–66 °F) as sunlight and river discharge change. Summer surface temperatures in the estuary and lower river commonly reach about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), while autumn cools to roughly 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). These figures are general for the estuarine and lower-river zones; upstream stretches and shallow shallows can warm or cool more quickly and local conditions such as tidal mixing and wind can cause short-term variability.
Swimming in the Rio Sado is permitted in various places but is best limited to designated bathing spots and nearby coastal beaches where authorities monitor water quality. Some sections near ports, industrial areas or intensive boat traffic are not recommended because of pollution episodes, stronger currents and navigation hazards. The estuary’s salinity gradient and protected habitats also lead to occasional restrictions to protect wildlife. For safe swimming, follow municipal signage and recent water quality reports: permitted areas are chosen for calmer water, monitored bacteriological levels and manageable currents.
