*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Ribeira de Aljezur (the River of Aljezur) is a small estuarine river in the Faro District of Portugal whose temperature reflects a mix of freshwater reach and tidal influence from the Atlantic. Seasonal surface water temperatures typically range from about 12–16 °C (54–61 °F) in winter, 14–18 °C (57–64 °F) in spring, 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) in summer and 16–20 °C (61–68 °F) in autumn. Shallow pools and sheltered bends can warm up more on sunny summer days, while winter flows and cooler sea incursions keep the estuary noticeably colder than calmer inland ponds.
Swimming in the Ribeira de Aljezur is generally possible in calm, shallow areas and near the estuary mouth when conditions are benign, but it is not a formally lifeguarded or regularly monitored bathing zone. Tidal currents, shifting sandbars and occasional runoff after heavy rains can affect safety and water quality, so many people swim only in sheltered spots or at low-risk times. Local advisories or signage should be checked when present; swimmers often use caution because of variable flow, cooler temperatures outside summer, and periodic contamination risks following storms.
