The Ribeira de Alcantarilha, in the Faro District of the Algarve, is a small river whose water temperature varies seasonally and with local conditions. During winter months the water typically cools to roughly 12–15 °C (54–59 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise into the mid-teens, around 14–18 °C (57–64 °F). In summer the shallow sections and estuarine areas warm more noticeably, often reaching 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) on sunny days, and autumn temperatures generally fall back to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). Local factors such as recent rainfall, depth, shading, and tidal influence at the mouth can cause short-term departures from these ranges, and small, still pools warm more quickly than flowing stretches.
