*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Ribeira de Alcantarilha, in the Faro District of the Algarve, is a small river whose water temperature varies seasonally and with local conditions. During winter months the water typically cools to roughly 12–15 °C (54–59 °F), while spring sees a gradual rise into the mid-teens, around 14–18 °C (57–64 °F). In summer the shallow sections and estuarine areas warm more noticeably, often reaching 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) on sunny days, and autumn temperatures generally fall back to about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F). Local factors such as recent rainfall, depth, shading, and tidal influence at the mouth can cause short-term departures from these ranges, and small, still pools warm more quickly than flowing stretches.
Swimming in the Ribeira de Alcantarilha is possible in calm pools and near the estuary but the river is not widely designated as an official bathing area, so regular water-quality monitoring and lifeguard coverage are typically absent. Access can be limited by private land or marshy banks, and water quality can deteriorate after heavy rains or due to agricultural runoff. For those considering a swim, it is advisable to check recent local conditions, respect private property, and avoid fast-flowing or discolored water; the estuary and nearby beaches often offer safer, better-monitored swimming options.
