** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Zumbro, a reservoir on the Zumbro River in southeastern Minnesota, follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of Midwestern lakes. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures usually rise from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the ice clears and water warms. By summer (June–August) the lake often reaches its warmest levels, typically in the 70–80°F range (21–27°C) on the surface during warm spells, with cooler water beneath. Fall (September–October) brings steady cooling, commonly to 50–65°F (10–18°C), and by late autumn and winter the lake approaches freezing, often near 32–40°F (0–4°C) where ice forms.
Swimming is generally allowed at public beaches and designated recreation areas on Lake Zumbro because it is managed for multiple recreational uses, including bathing and boating. However, swimmers should use marked swim zones and heed posted advisories because conditions can change quickly: summer warmth can be local and shallow, deeper areas remain cool, boat traffic and wakes create hazards, and algal blooms or runoff can occasionally prompt temporary water-quality warnings. For safety, check local park notices and lifeguard availability, be aware of sudden temperature drops in deeper water, and avoid swimming near the dam or outside marked areas.
