*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of Foster-Arend, like many inland Minnesota lakes, experiences marked seasonal swings in water temperature. During winter months the surface typically freezes and the water just beneath the ice is close to freezing, roughly 33–39°F (1–4°C). In spring the lake warms steadily as ice melts, with surface temperatures commonly rising from near 32°F (0°C) to about 50–55°F (10–13°C) by late spring. Summer surface temperatures often reach the warmest range, frequently between about 65–80°F (18–27°C) on sunny days, while deeper water can remain much cooler, often in the 40s–50s°F (4–12°C). In autumn the surface cools again, descending through the 50s and 40s°F (10–4°C) as the lake overturns and approaches winter conditions.
Swimming is generally allowed on Minnesota lakes such as Foster-Arend where public access exists, but it depends on local rules, posted advisories, and water-quality conditions. Local authorities or landowners may restrict access for safety or ecological reasons, and occasional blue-green algae blooms or contamination advisories can temporarily prohibit bathing. In winter the frozen surface prevents conventional swimming and cold-water immersion risks hypothermia and cold shock; some people do supervised ice swimming but it requires special precautions. Before swimming, check for public access points, posted signs, and any health or safety advisories from local agencies.
