*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Pool 6 of the Mississippi River in Wisconsin experiences a wide seasonal swing in water temperature because it is a river pool with variable depth, flow and exposure. In spring surface temperatures are typically in the range of about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as snowmelt and cool air dominate. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with many shallow bays and backwaters reaching roughly 68–80°F (20–27°C) on average and occasionally rising into the mid-80s°F (around 29°C) during heat waves. In fall water cools again to approximately 45–65°F (7–18°C). In winter the pool can approach freezing at the surface, often 32–40°F (0–4°C), and some areas may ice over depending on conditions. Localized currents, shading and depth cause important variations from these ranges.
Swimming in Pool 6 is possible in calmer backwater areas and at some public access points during the warm months, but it is not uniformly managed as a monitored beach. Many spots have no lifeguards and boat traffic, submerged hazards and strong currents near the main channel make some places unsafe. Water quality advisories, debris and occasional algal blooms can also limit safe swimming. For comfortable, lower-risk swimming most people choose the late June–August window when surface temperatures are warmest, and it is best to follow posted signs and local guidance before entering the water.
