** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Eau Galle, a reservoir in western Wisconsin, follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of inland lakes in the region. In spring (April–May) surface waters commonly range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake recovers from winter cooling. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest surface readings, frequently between 68–78°F (20–26°C) and occasionally reaching the mid-70s to upper 70s°F (24–26°C) during heat spells. By fall (September–October) surface temperatures drop back into the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C) as cooling progresses. In winter the surface approaches freezing, about 32–36°F (0–2°C), and ice cover is normal, making open-water swimming uncommon. Like most lakes, Eau Galle stratifies in summer so deeper water can remain much colder (often 40–50°F / 4–10°C) below the thermocline.
Swimming at Lake Eau Galle is generally possible from shorelines, public access points and during recreation season where permitted, but conditions vary and local rules apply. There are typically no lifeguards at remote reservoir sites, and water quality or algal bloom advisories after heavy rains can temporarily restrict swimming. Because of temperature changes with depth and the possibility of sudden cold pockets, swimmers should exercise caution, enter gradually, and check current local guidance on access, safety, and water quality before swimming.
