*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mazaska Lake’s surface temperatures follow the familiar seasonal pattern for small Minnesota lakes. After ice-out in spring, surface water is cold, often in the mid-30s to low-60s °F (about 1–16 °C) as the lake mixes and warms. By midsummer the top layer commonly reaches the high 60s to low 80s °F (roughly 20–28 °C) on warm sunny days, with the warmest readings in July and August. In early fall temperatures typically decline into the mid-40s to low-60s °F (about 7–16 °C) as air temperatures cool. In winter the lake usually has ice cover and surface water temperatures hover at freezing at the ice-water interface (around 32 °F / 0 °C), with slightly warmer, near 39 °F (4 °C) water at deeper points beneath the ice.
Swimming at Mazaska Lake is commonly possible where there is public access or private shoreline that permits recreational use; there is no statewide blanket ban on lake swimming in Minnesota. Whether swimming is advisable depends on local rules, posted advisories, and water quality. Seasonal issues such as harmful algal blooms in late summer, high bacteria readings after heavy rain, submerged hazards, or icy conditions in shoulder seasons can lead authorities to restrict or discourage swimming. Visitors should check local signage or county health advisories before entering the water and take standard precautions for cold-water exposure, currents, and boat traffic.
