*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wirth Lake is a relatively small, shallow urban lake in Minneapolis that experiences pronounced seasonal swings in surface temperature. In winter the lake typically freezes and water beneath the ice hovers near 32°F (0°C). During spring thaw surface readings commonly range from about 35–60°F (2–15°C) as the lake warms slowly; by late spring to early summer temperatures often reach roughly 50–70°F (10–21°C). Peak summer surface temperatures for a shallow lake like Wirth Lake are frequently in the mid-60s to upper-70s °F range (about 18–26°C), and on warm spells can briefly approach the low 80s °F (27–28°C). In autumn the water cools back through the 50s °F (10–15°C) before refreezing. Because the lake is shallow, it responds quickly to air temperature and solar radiation and tends not to develop strong thermal stratification.
Seasonal swimming is generally possible at the park beach areas when the city or park authority has the site officially open and lifeguards are present; closures occur when ice is present or when water-quality testing shows bacterial contamination or harmful algal blooms. Swimmers should heed posted advisories, since shallow urban lakes can experience rapid changes in temperature, submerged vegetation, and occasional algae that affect safety and comfort. Ice swimming or unsupervised winter entry is not recommended because of hypothermia and thin-ice hazards.
