** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of the Isles is a relatively small, urban lake in Minneapolis whose water temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern of shallow Midwestern lakes. In winter the surface commonly freezes and water temperatures hover near 32°F (0°C). During spring the lake warms from the mid-30s into the 40s and low 50s Fahrenheit (about 2–12°C) as ice melts and runoff flushes the basin. By midsummer surface temperatures often reach the 60s to mid-70s°F (roughly 16–24°C), though deeper pockets remain cooler; autumn brings a steady decline back into the 40s–60s°F (7–16°C) before refreezing. Local factors such as wind, sunlight, stormwater inflows and occasional algal activity can make temperatures variable on short timescales and produce cooler stratified layers below the surface.
Swimming opportunities at Lake of the Isles are limited. The park does not have an official public swimming beach or staffed lifeguards, and city guidance generally does not promote recreational swimming there. Some residents do wade or swim informally when surface temperatures are warm, but water quality advisories, aquatic vegetation, underwater hazards and the absence of lifeguards are reasons officials and health authorities often caution against it. Anyone considering entering the water should check current local advisories and be aware that conditions can change quickly.
