*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Schmidt Lake in Minnesota follows the typical thermal pattern of shallow-to-moderate lakes in the region. In winter the surface is usually at or just below freezing, around 32°F (0°C) with liquid water below the ice often near 39°F (4°C) where water is densest. During spring the surface temperature commonly rises from roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) as ice melts and the lake stratifies. Summer surface temperatures often peak between about 65–78°F (18–26°C) on warm, sunny days, although shallow bays can warm above this range. In autumn the water cools back toward 45–60°F (7–16°C) before turnover and refreezing.
Swimming at Schmidt Lake is generally possible and is commonly undertaken during the warm months when surface temperatures are comfortable, roughly above 65°F (18°C). Municipal or private shoreline access, beaches, and docks permit entry where allowed, but swimmers should heed posted advisories because occasional algal blooms, high bacteria counts, or other water-quality issues can temporarily close recreational use. In winter the frozen surface prevents normal swimming and any ice activities require careful ice-safety practices. As with any lake, checking local health and safety notices before entering the water is recommended.
