*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dutch Lake in Minnesota follows the familiar seasonal pattern of temperate lakes. In spring, after ice-out, surface water temperatures typically range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake slowly warms. By mid to late summer the surface often reaches roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C), with the warmest days pushing toward the upper end of that range in shallow bays. In autumn the lake cools back into the 50–60°F range (10–16°C) before freezing; in winter the surface is at or below freezing, around 32°F (0°C), and the lake is usually ice-covered for a period, making open-water swimming impossible.
Swimming in Dutch Lake is generally permitted when conditions are safe and the water is not ice-covered, and many residents and visitors swim there during the warmer months because summer temperatures are comfortable for recreational bathing. Local water-quality advisories, beach facilities, and the presence or absence of lifeguards affect how and where people choose to swim; algal blooms, aquatic plants, sudden temperature changes and cold-shock risk in spring and fall are reasons to exercise caution. Ice swimming is only appropriate for experienced individuals using proper safety protocols when ice is thick and monitored.
