Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tunnsjøen (Norwegian: Tunnsjøen) is a large, deep freshwater lake in Trøndelag County whose size and depth keep its temperatures relatively cool year-round. Surface water in mid to late summer typically ranges from about 12–17 °C (54–63 °F) on warm days, while deeper layers remain much colder. During spring and early summer the surface is often only 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) as snowmelt cools the water, and in autumn temperatures commonly fall to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). In winter the lake usually freezes or sits close to 0 °C (32 °F) under ice, with sub-surface waters near the temperature of maximum density around 4 °C (39 °F).
Swimming in Tunnsjøen is possible and commonly practised in summer where shore access allows, but it is not a warm bathing lake and caution is advised. The generally good, natural water quality and public access mean swimming is not restricted, yet the cold surface temperatures, steep drop-offs and remote, largely unstaffed shoreline increase the risk of cold shock and hypothermia; safety measures such as gradual immersion, a companion, and dry clothing are recommended. In winter the frozen surface prevents normal swimming except for those who deliberately practice ice bathing under experienced, controlled conditions.
