** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hundålvatnet is a lake in Nordland County, Norway, and like many northern lakes its surface temperatures vary markedly through the year. During summer months the water typically warms to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F), with sheltered, shallow bays sometimes reaching the upper part of that range on warm days. In spring, snowmelt and cold air commonly keep the lake around 0–8 °C (32–46 °F), while autumn temperatures generally fall into the 5–12 °C (41–54 °F) band as the weather cools. In winter the lake can approach freezing at the surface, around 0 °C (32 °F), and frequently freezes over depending on local conditions and altitude.
Swimming at Hundålvatnet is generally permitted under Norway’s public right of access (allemannsretten), and there are no widespread bans specifically prohibiting bathing. However, practical opportunities vary: warm, comfortable swims are most likely in late summer when surface temperatures peak, whereas spring and autumn swimming expose bathers to cold-water risks and winter swimming is hazardous without special precautions. There are often no lifeguards, few facilities, and remote access can increase risk, so swimmers should assess conditions, use appropriate protective gear for cold water, and avoid solitary swims to reduce danger from hypothermia or sudden cold-water shock.
