*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Devon
Trenchford Reservoir is situated in the beautiful and often remote area of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England. Like many reservoirs in the UK, its primary purpose is the storage and supply of drinking water. Consequently, swimming is strictly prohibited in Trenchford Reservoir. This rule is in place for several critical reasons: firstly, to maintain the purity of the public water supply, preventing contamination from human contact or equipment; and secondly, for public safety, as reservoirs can hide unseen hazards like strong undertows, sudden deep drops, and extremely cold water pockets, particularly near the dam infrastructure.
The water temperature in Trenchford experiences the full range of English seasonal changes. During the winter months (December through February), temperatures are consistently cold, typically hovering between 38°F and 45°F (3°C and 7°C). The risk of cold water shock is extremely high during this period. In summer (June through August), the surface water warms up noticeably, generally ranging from 60°F to 68°F (16°C to 20°C). However, even these warm surface readings can conceal significantly colder layers just beneath, posing a danger even to experienced swimmers, reinforcing the no-swimming policy.
