Roadford Lake is a large reservoir in Devon whose water temperature varies considerably through the year. In summer the surface water commonly warms to roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), offering the most comfortable conditions for dipping. Spring and early summer temperatures often sit between about 6–15 °C (43–59 °F), while autumn sees a gradual fall to around 8–16 °C (46–61 °F). Winter temperatures can be much colder, typically in the range of 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) or lower in prolonged cold spells, so the lake feels bracing outside the warmest months.
Swimming at Roadford is possible but usually in a controlled way: organised open-water sessions and supervised activities run by the watersports centre are allowed, and lifeguarded events are the safest option.
